Legacy Modernization Brochure
Is your mainframe system out of date and expensive to maintain or upgrade? Most
are. The 5280 Solutions team can modernize your mainframe applications to .NET using
our efficient, reliable methodology and conversion tools. We have the knowledge
and experience to modernize your system while leveraging your important legacy business
logic and data structures.
Legacy Modernization requires specialized skills and process specific knowledge
that are “throw-away” skills for many companies. Let 5280 Solutions transition your
technology platform, allowing your team to concentrate on your business.
Why use 5280’s Legacy Modernization Process?
In a word…experience. At 5280 Solutions, we don’t simply claim to understand how
to make the transition to .NET. We’ve done it before – and have done it extremely
well – on our own software which is used to manage multi-billion dollar portfolios.
Our experienced and innovative modernization experts are well-versed with modernization
techniques and have customized our processes and tools for maximum efficiency. Ours
is the only modernization solution to offer 5280 Lighthouse™,
a simple post-modernization system management tool.
When 5280 Solutions performs your Legacy Modernization, you can:
-
Expect rapid ROI. Dramatically decrease high maintenance costs by modernizing your
technology. Your company can experience a full return on investment in as few as
six months after the transition is complete.
-
Increase competitiveness. With 5280’s Legacy Modernization Process, you can adopt
a Software as a Service (SaaS) model, giving your business a more accessible and
affordable technology solution.
-
Gain access to developers. Newer, cutting-edge technologies that position organizations
for the future will be more accessible through the deeper pool of developers that
are available now. Integrate newer product offerings into a modern .NET environment.
In short, Legacy Modernization provides:
-
The tools and process to enable your mainframe legacy system to operate in the .NET
environment
-
The ability to take advantage of .NET technologies/SharePoint/Workflow
-
CICS programs become Web Services in a SOA, screens become HTML
-
5280 Lighthouse™ - an administrative interface
that allows non-IT staff to manage the system
-
A more cost efficient system that utilizes existing business logic and data structures

Analysis
We review the existing code architecture and determine the data structures and data
access methods that were used. We then determine what coding standards were used
in development and how it translates to the .NET platform. We can then provide a
high-level estimate of the effort and timeframe needed to modernize.
Proof of Concept
We perform a Proof of Concept (PoC) on a small subset of transactions and data structures
and provide an online sample of the results of the modernization through our hosting
facilities. This will help you understand what the results will look like, and allows
us to provide a detailed, modified estimate on the work that will be required.
Design
We develop and architect what the final modernization solution will look like, including
interfaces with other existing systems within your enterprise (this could include
other mainframe systems that are not being modernized or newer technologies).
Build
We use our proven methodologies to modernize the online and batch portions of your
legacy system to the .NET platform. If desired we can wrap the modernized solution
in 5280 Lighthouse™ or add SharePoint, Workflow, and other MS .NET technologies.
Release
We install the newly modernized code base at your location, execute data conversion
and support you as you perform parallel testing to validate results before going
live.
